Our Values
We are committed to becoming a better business – for our customers, partners, and our planet.
For us, a future that is filled with elegant fine objects can and should be both functional and sustainable. Being a fair trade business means we conform to the ten core principles of fair trade practices throughout our entire supply chain, and it also means that we are constantly trying to show transparency and improve.
This is especially challenging in Morocco where fair trade practices are not common in business. We aim to instil these best practices and improve the society we live in.
Opportunities for Disadvantaged Artisans
Currently we are working with different cooperatives and suppliers, all of whom vary in size. We give equal opportunities to all suppliers who are fighting poverty through trade. We primarily work with women-owned cooperatives from the High Atlas Region.
Transparency and AccountabilityWe visit our artisan workshops and atelier and obtain information from them relating to the working conditions and regulations of the work places they provide. When visiting the ateliers we see products in production, the working conditions and health and safety practises. We provide artisan information for every product we sell and ensure we get to know and trust the artisans we work with.
Fair Trade PracticesWe pay the artisans the asking price and work with women-owned cooperatives that not only sell these hand-made products but we also teach the women workers to calculate the value of their work in monetary terms - thereby empowering the artisans to showcase their hard work at a fair price.
Many suppliers require up front payment for goods at the time we place the order, this is so they can buy the materials and pay wages throughout the manufacturing process. We always ensure we pay the supplier whatever they ask, whether it be 100%, 50% or 30% advances, and for all orders we pay any remaining balance before the goods leave the country of manufacture.
We do not cancel orders, as soon as we approve samples and confirm our orders, the order is final.
We do not charge or request compensation for late delivery of orders, there are many eventualities that can result in order delays that are often out of anyone's control.
Promote Fair Trade
We try to promote fair trade as much as we can, through our social media and our website. It is finally becoming more recognised and is something that more and more people are aware of. We strive to keep spreading awareness and educating people on the importance of fair trade and what it means to be ethical consumers.
We do not quibble on price or ever ask for discounts or better prices, we trust our artisans entirely and pay the asking price.
No Discrimination, Gender Equality, Freedom of Association
All of the suppliers we work with employ both men and women. There is equality in the workplace and wage is decided based on skill, job requirements and experience.
No Child Labour, No Forced Labour
We ensure there is no forced or child labour in any of the businesses we work with.
Capacity Building
The artisans and cooperatives we work with are keen to develop the skills and capabilities of the people they employ, providing training and constantly striving to ensure their business is growing and always providing job security.
Good Working Conditions
We visit our artisans' workshops and obtain information from them relating to the working conditions and regulations of the work places they provide. When visiting the workshops we see products in production, the working conditions and health and safety practises. We provide artisan information for every product we sell and ensure we get to know and trust the suppliers we work with.
We ensure we do not buy any plastic goods and all our products are wrapped in brown paper and tied with jute strings. We are constantly trying to seek more environmentally friendly ways to package our goods and always try to minimise on packaging where possible. We try to buy products which are made from natural raw material often dyed with vegetable dyes, and our vintage collection showcases recycled and up-cycled hand-made rugs. We try to ensure no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. All our deliveries are shipped carbon-neutral worldwide.
